Send Session, Paper, Poster by Oct. 5

Featured News

David Lewin, in his LERA presidential role as Program Committee Chair, has announced an October 5 deadline to submit session proposals, papers, and posters for consideration to the LERA program. The LERA 65th Annual Meeting will take place June 6-9, 2013 in St. Louis, Mo., home of the Gateway LERA Chapter, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

65th is the 1st Independent

In 2013, LERA begins a new era of Annual Meetings, convening independently of the ASSA/AEA meeting, and in June instead of in January. This change is bringing about some exciting new developments in the program. We encourage you to submit either a complete session proposal, or a single paper, or a poster abstract, for consideration on the program by the LERA 65th Annual Meeting Program Committee. The deadline for session proposals is October 5, and the other deadlines range between Oct. 1 and Jan. 15. Several competitions include monetary and other prizes, and some are open to students.

The program committee is interested in placing innovative and exciting symposia and workshops on the program, and encourage the submission of sessions of all types of formats including panels, skill-building sessions, debates, round table discussions, etc.

LERA wants to reach out to all of our members, from all perspectives and viewpoints, national and chapter members, and from all our sections and councils. We have built in additional sessions for our first independent annual meeting, to ensure that we are bringing the most compelling content to all of our LERA members. The program will feature the cutting-edge research LERA is best known for, professional development (best practices, training, professional issues), and public policy (especially in the areas of health care and defense).

Gateway Chapter Welcomes LERA Members

Also, LERA is working with the Gateway Chapter to help you make the most of your trip to St. Louis, either alone or with your family. Plans are still underway, but there is talk of hosting small dinner trips to various eateries, taking a group outing to a Cardinals baseball game, touring the a brewery or other local factory, and more. And, of course, there is no end to the side trips you and your family can take advantage of including, Six Flags, the Arch, St. Louis Zoo, the Magic House, Grant's Farm, museums, bike trails, and more. Plans are still being laid, and LERA members and past meeting attendees can help us plan this event by completing this survey.

Something For Everyone

  • For academics: You will have an opportunity to present your research, whether it be by participating in a session, or presenting your paper in a LERA Competitive Paper session, or in the LERA Poster session. You can also network, attend either the Ph.D. Student Consortium or the Junior Faculty Consortium, and other special events. Then, listen in to what practitioners are experiencing in the field by attending the professional development sessions, and learn how LERA practitioners and researchers come together to inform public policy at our special policy sessions.

  • For practitioners (labor, management, neutrals): You will have an opportunity to meet with your colleages and participate and listen in on various types of workshops, professional development sessions, discussions, and debates. Share best practices with your colleagues, and learn about the challenges others are facing. Then, listen in to what academics are discussing in the research sessions, and come together with academics to inform public policy. LERA Chapter members are especially encouraged to attend and will enjoy several additional sessions especially for chapter officers and representatives, including LERA Chapter Awards.

  • For government members and everyone: This program will have several public-policy oriented sessions that you will not want to miss, and a (TBA) featured luncheon speaker will talk about a public policy. Both LERA practitioners and academics will lend their expertise and knowledge to discussion surrounding health care and defense, as related to the nation's workforce.

The new independent Annual Meeting will continue to feature all the special functions and events you have come to expect, including the Presidential Luncheon, our Joint Universities Reception, the LERA Poster Session, committee meetings, and other breakfasts, luncheons, and special events.
