LeRoy on American Airlines' Troubles

American Airlines' labor and late-flight problems have been much in the news lately, including the Oct. 9 American Public Media's Marketplace radio report. The stakes are even higher says LERA's Michael LeRoy, a professor at the School of Labor and Employment Relations at the University of Illinois, because American is in bankruptcy.

“A judge can intervene and literally terminate the collective bargaining agreement,” explains LeRoy, "At that point, it could be a very chaotic situation.”

There's another wild card: Social media. Passengers can vent about late flights and lousy service on Facebook and Twitter and take American's problems viral.
