The Labor and Employment Law Interest Section of the LERA is a group of people from many different disciplinary backgrounds. The section's focus is on the law as it affects labor and employment and as the law is affected by social and other forces.

BY-LAWS OF THE LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT LAW (LEL) SECTION
OF THE LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS ASSOCIATION (LERA)
1. The LEL-LERA was established in 1996 as a constituent organization of the Labor and Employment Relations Association.
2. The purpose of the LEL-LERA is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas about labor and employment law aspects of industrial relations. Its activities include:
a. organizing sessions at the meetings of the LERA;
b. organizing other meetings, workshops and colloquia;
c. encouraging professional interaction and collaboration among teachers of labor and employment law topics, researchers in the field of labor and employment law and related areas, and practitioners;
d. any other relevant activities.
3. Membership is open to all members of the LERA who comply with additional requirements established by the Board of the Labor and Employment Law Section.
4. Membership fees, if any, will be determined by the business meeting of the LEL, Section held at the annual meeting.
5. LEL-LERA policy, consistent with the by-laws, will be determined by a simle majority of members in good standing at each business meeting.
6. In the period between annual meetings of the LERA, the LEL-LERA shall be governed by a Board consisting of the Chair, Past-Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary- Treasurer and three to eight Section members.
7. The duties of the Past-Chair shall normally include presiding over the nominating committee; the Chair shall normally preside over the annual business meeting; the Vice-Chair (who shall also be the Chair-Elect) shall normally organize the annual activities of the Section with the advice and consent of the Board; the Secretary-Treasurer (who shall also be the Vice-Chair Elect) shall normally prepare minutes of the business meeting and other meetings of the Board, maintain the financial records of the Section and assume other duties as determined by the Board.
8. Officers and members of the Board shall be elected at the business meeting and shall hold office for one year or until successors are elected. The maximum term of office of a member of the Board shall be three consecutive years, excluding years served as officers.
9. A nominating committee consisting of the Past-Chair and two other members of the Board shall be responsible for presenting a slate of candidates for election as officers and members of the Board to the annual business meeting. Additional nominations supported by at least five members may be submitted to the Secretary-Treasurer in advance of the business meeting.
10. These bv-laws may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of those present and voting at the annual business meeting provided that the amendments are received at least two weeks in advance by the Secretary-Treasurer.
