Purpose - The purpose of the Mid-Michigan Chapter of LERA is to foster networking and discussion of issues affecting today's workplace.  The LERA provides a unique forum where representatives of all stakeholders in the employment relationship and their views are welcome.

Members - The Mid-Michigan Chapter of LERA is an organization of professionals interested in labor relations and human resources.  Members include personnel and human resource professionals, management and labor advocates, attorneys, mediators, arbitrators, academics, and consultants.  Those from the public and private sector, non-profit and proprietary organizations are represented as well as faculty, students and others with an interest in labor relations and employment issues.

Monthly Programs - To share knowledge and insight, monthly speaker programs are the major activity of the Chapter.  Programs are held the second Tuesday of the month, September through May, at the Hall of Fame Cafe' (US-127 and Lake Lansing Rd.) in East Lansing.  While most programs will be held during the lunch hour, from time to time meetings will be held in the evening.               

National LERA - The Labor and Employment Relations Association, founded in 1947 as the Industrial Relations Research Association, is a singular organization of professionals interested in industrial relations and human resources.  The National LERA provides a network of practitioners and academics interested in the field of IR and HR who share their knowledge and insight through regular LERA publications and at LERA meetings twice a year.  The National LERA encompasses more than 3,000 members.  More information about the National LERA is available via the link to their website.

The 61-member chapter hold nine events a year: seven luncheons and two dinners. The year runs September-August. Dues are $25 regular, $10 student, $10 retiree, $65 organizational. There is a $5 due for those who just want to receive program notices by e-mail but who do not want to join the organization. This fee is waived if you attend a program once every two years and also has higher cost for meals. Affiliated with LERA 1981.

The Mid-Michigan Chapter was initiated in 1980. The By-laws provide for four officers - President, President-elect, Secretary, and Treasurer - and a four-member Advisory Board appointed by the President to manage chapter activities. Officers are elected in April and begin their terms in June. In accord with its By-laws, the Chapter takes no partisan position on questions of policy in the field of labor relations.
