Make an online contribution to the Walter and Gladys Gershenfeld Publications Fund.
The LERA Executive Board announces the establishment of the “Walter and Gladys Gershenfeld Publications Fund,” through which LERA’s many publications can be supported. Contributions to this fund enable innovation in print and electronic publications.
Since this is a regular part of the LERA budget, contributions to this fund also free up resources for other aspects of LERA’s operations. In launching the fund, the Gershenfeld family has made an initial contribution of $5,000 for 2010 and they have committed to provide a total of $25,000 to this fund over the next five years.
Commenting on the fund, Gladys Gershenfeld states, “For the many years that Walter and I worked on labor-management issues, LERA has been a valuable source of publications, representing new knowledge in the field.”
Joel Cutcher-Gershenfeld adds, “Everyone in the family is delighted to contribute to the launch of this new fund, which will help LERA innovate in the dissemination of knowledge, while also providing much needed support for regular operations .”
Walter and Gladys Gershenfeld have had distinguished careers as labor arbitrators, university educators and scholars, with each contributing to many LERA publications over the years. Gladys, her sons Joel, Neil, and Alan, (shown in photo above) and their spouses Susan, Laura and Madhavi, honor the memory of Walter in establishing the fund.
Walter served in many leadership roles in LERA, including service as national president of the association. Gladys has also held many leadership roles in the association, including serving as the first women president of the Philadelphia chapter, which was launched with a group of colleagues over the dinner table in the Gershenfeld home. Joel Cutcher-Gershenfeld, Walter and Gladys’ oldest son, has also served as president of LERA.
Contributions to the fund in honor of Walter’s memory are welcome. They can be made online at the LERA website at the Give to the LERA link or at the time LERA members join or renew their memberships.
